Meet Rev. Mr. Yunior Gonzalez-Diaz
Hello! My name is Deacon Yunior Gonzalez-Diaz, and I am blessed to be serving this summer here at St. Peter Parish. This is my first weeks with all of you, and I’m truly enjoying getting to know the community. Thank you for your warm welcome, I already feel at home!
I was ordained a deacon on May 24, 2025, and, God willing, I will be ordained a priest in June 2026. I’ll be returning to Wisconsin this August to complete my final semester at Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology, where I’ve been finishing my priestly formation.
I was born in Cuba, and yes, my name “Yunior” comes with a little story! In the 70s and 80s, Russian influence in Cuba led to many names like Yuri, Yaniel, and Yurisleski. A cousin who had traveled to Germany came back and suggested the name “Yunior” to my parents, he thought it sounded unique. In Spanish, it’s spelled with a “Y” but pronounced just like “Junior” in English. I’ve grown to love the story behind it thankfully, mine was one of the easier ones!
I became a U.S. citizen in 2003, and moved to Colorado in 2015. I hold a master’s degree in Elementary Education with a focus in science, and I’ve worked as a Spanish teacher and substitute teacher in Maryland. I've also managed flower event companies as a floral designer, yes, I’ve gone from classrooms to bouquets!
Most importantly, my heart has always been in pastoral ministry. I’ve served as a Coordinator of Religious Education (CRE) and in many parish roles. I also spent some time discerning with the Conventual Franciscans before joining the Diocese of Colorado Springs in 2017.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I paused formation to be with my family in Miami, especially to care for my brother during his illness. In 2023, I returned to Colorado and resumed my journey toward the priesthood.
I believe God is forming me to be a compassionate and joyful priest, rooted in the spirituality of St. Francis of Assisi. I’m deeply grateful to be here this summer, and I look forward to serving and learning alongside all of you.

Retreat for Men Considering the Priesthood - Saturday, July 12

This discernment retreat for men ages 18-40 will be held at St. John Henry Newman Center, 4785 Stanton Road, Colorado Springs. There will be presentations by a priest, a parent of a priest and the seminarian’s panel. Adoration and the rosary will also be offered. Immediately following the retreat, discerners and their parents (no other family members, please) are invited to a BBQ. RSVP by email to mlehnertz@icloud.com.
Pray for Victims and Survivors of Human Trafficking
The HOPE Advocates group will not be meeting in June. Please pray with us for an end to Human Trafficking, for the rescue of victims, and for the restoration of survivors. Please also pray for all those who work tirelessly to rescue and support the victims of trafficking.

Loving Father,
We seek your divine protection for all who are exploited and enslaved.
For those forced into labor, trafficked into sexual slavery, and denied freedom.
We beseech you to release them from their chains.
Grant them protection, safety, and empowerment.
Restore their dignity and provide them a new beginning.
Show us how we might end exploitation by addressing its causes.
Help us reach out in support of victims and survivors of human trafficking.
Make us instruments of your spirit for their liberation.

Tri-Lakes Cares Backpack Collection - June 27 - July 13
We are collecting new backpacks to support the Tri-Lakes Cares Backpack Bash. All donations will be distributed in the northern Colorado Springs/Monument communities. All sewers and seamstresses are invited to the PMC where Irene Sutherland will demonstrate how a donated wedding gown can be transformed into a very special garment for premature babies in the NICU who have been called “home” to God. Many can list them, but far fewer can describe them or recognize their attributes. They’re given to us by God for a reason. Therefore, each of us is personally obliged to fulfill and engage our Spiritual Gifts! Have you? Most of us still haven’t figured out which Gift of the Spirit is most evident in ourselves - even after many years of adult life. Mike is going to explore the Seven Gifts and explain how they differ from Charisms. But most importantly, he is going to show you how to discern, recognize, and engage your specific primary Gift of the Holy Spirit, because it's never too late! By invoking the Gifts of the Spirit, come to learn how to unlock the holy potential, God Himself, has uniquely purposed for YOU. Host Families Needed for International Exchange Students
Borderless Friends, a non-profit dedicated to promoting world peace through cultivating opportunities for cultural and educational exchanges, is seeking American host families so that students can experience a year in the US and attend public high school. There are a number of Catholic students who would benefit from being in a Catholic home. Here is the link to see available students:

Volunteer host families provide three meals a day, a bedroom (can be shared), transportation (student can take bus at their expense) and a loving home for them. To mark this unforgettable occasion, we’ve been offered a unique and generous gift: acclaimed composer Lynn Hutchinson has agreed to write an original piece just for this year’s concert to benefit Tri-Lakes Cares.
Ms. Hutchinson has offered to compose the piece for a reduced commission of $800. Thanks to a generous donor who has already pledged $200, we’re now seeking $600 from our community to fully fund this special project.
